Curren$y: Pilot of the Jet Life

The hot ‘spitta’ Shante Franklin, better known as currency is a young pioneer finally reaping the benefits of his labor.  New Orleans native and lyrical exhibitionist Currency actually got started following the footsteps of his brother. Former 504 boyz member Mr. Marcelo is the big brother of Currency and ultimately the affiliate that launched Currency’s young career. After building a friendship with rapper and member of the No limit record label C-murder, currency inked his first minor deal. Active since 2002 most wouldn’t guess Currency was actually the first act signed to Lil Wayne’s Young money Entertainment label through Cash Money Records. Due to technicalities currency bounced around labels and record deals between 2002-2007. The mixtape attacks begin in 2008 with the rapper releasing numerous street albums. His efforts began to gain the attention of major labels in the industry. A bad deal with Amalgam digital resulted in the hold of albums This aint no mix tape and Jet file recorded in 2009.
Fortunately the release by the label took place May 30, 2011, which was perfect timing.  Though talks of a possible project being released under newly launched Roc-a-fella records didn’t work out, things are still looking up for Currency.  On February 1, 2011, it was announced that Currency signed a label deal with Warner Bros. Records for his imprint, Jet life recording. ‘Weekend at Burnie’s’ is going to be his first major label album release and his fans are waiting. The album is almost entirely produced by Monsta Beatz and is set for release on June 28, 2011. With his witty delivery and loose subject matter it’s sure to be a classic.
