Jalen Rose Leadership Academy

In 2007 the drop out rate for Detroit area students was 30%. In 2011 that number has dramatically been reduced to 19%.   This is all thanks to former NBA star Jalen Rose. Jalen has made a humbling transformation from his childhood years as a Detroit native. Going from a scrawny college prospect to an NBA superstar gave him perspective.

Today Jalen is a TV analyst and founder of a Charter High School; The Jalen Rose Leadership academy. Rose also has an endowment with his al ma matter Michigan. “The key to a good job is education”, Rose is working diligently to encourage Detroit youth to get an education to better their lives.  So far the academy has created scholarships for over 40 kids in the last 10 years.  Though this number seems low on a larger scale it would have potential. 20% of Detroit’s population lives of less than 10K a year.  The need for a solution has well been over due. Yet Rose’s charter school’s have made Detroit public schools better. The school system is benefiting from its contributions and their tactics are being noticed. A key to the success is that they up the antae. Longer school days, tutoring programs, longer school years (170-210 days), and 6 Saturday classes were all implemented. As explained by Jalen, Charter schools are hybrid schools, something of a mixture of private and public school. As charter schools they have the right to implement what they thin is right curriculum, social, and economic wise. Rose Suggests parental choice for student placement.  The foundation plans to go scale in 2015.

If one man with wealth can make an impact like this where is his help? So much we celebrate other individual’s accomplishments and respect them for a talent. We should start respecting those who make a real change. Just a thought.

The Troy Davis Story

Troy Anthony Davis (born October 9, 1968) was convicted of the August 19, 1989, murder of Savannah, Georgia police officer Mark MacPhail. MacPhail was working as a security guard at a restaurant when he intervened in an argument between several men in a nearby parking lot. He was shot in the heart and face without having drawn his gun. One of the men, Sylvester "Redd" Coles, went to police and implicated Davis in the killing, and Davis was arrested four days later. During Davis’ 1991 trial, many witnesses testified they had seen Davis shoot MacPhail. Two others testified that Davis had confessed the murder to them. The murder weapon was never found, and no physical evidence linked Davis to the crime. Throughout his trial and subsequent appeals, Davis has maintained his innocence. Davis was convicted and sentenced to death in August 1991.

Air Jordan 10 "Chicago"

The Air Jordan 10 has been one of the more scarcely seen retros among the entire signature series. In the mid 2000's there were a few drops from the AJ 10 line that put smiles on the faces of many sneakerheads, but since the 10/13 CDP, we haven't seen any new releases. 2012 is going to change that with a number of releases set for next year and first up is the Chicago edition of the Air Jordan 10, a pair that will be making its first retro appearance since its OG drop back in '95. Look for these at the end of January and prepare to have to put in some work for them. Images: Air-Randy

ICE-T CALLS RICK ROSS 'IDENTITY CRISIS' FOR FAKE PERSONA

Ice-T has never been one to hold his tongue, being the blunt entertainer that he is. Days before the VH1 documentary, 'Planet Rock: The Story of Hip-Hop and the Crack Generation,' he executive produced is set to air, the rapper-turned-actor has revealed surprising sentiments about Miami rhymer Rick Ross, who is also a subject of the doc.

"Rick Ross stole a n----s name," Ice-T reportedly
explained. "I call him 'Identity Crisis.'" In the documentary, airing on VH1 Sun., Sept. 18 at 10PM, Ross is labeled under the category of people who try to claim the drug dealer lifestyle yet never actually lived through it. As Ice-T plays narrator, he states that "dudes start putting on the persona [of a drug dealer] like a dookie chain," as images of the bearded MC are shown onscreen.

Former crack kingpin Freeway Ricky Ross, who has been in a legal battle with rapper Rick Ross over "stealing" his moniker, chimed in on the 'Teflon Don' creator's fake image. "Rick Ross stole my name and my identity," Freeway Ricky Ross states. "He's been living the fraud. He's never sold drugs. He was a correctional officer. He's not me. He's not Rick Ross."

Speaking with Vibe.com, Ice-T went on to give details about the doc and what viewers can expect from the storyline. "It's an authentic film," he shares. "I never sold drugs. I had other hustles I was involved with. We had Snoop and [Cypress Hill's] B-Real -- basically the movie is just showing how these kids that were actually on the streets hustling ended up making it and why the music reflected it. It just takes u through that era that some of us lived through. Hopefully it will open people's eyes and people can get a better understanding of that era."

Gucci Mane down for six months

Southern rap star Gucci Mane is headed back to jail once more.

The 31-year-old, born Radric Davis, appeared in an Atlanta court Tuesday (Sept. 13) andpleaded guilty to two counts of battery, two counts of reckless conduct and one count of disorderly conduct, according to Dekalb County Solicitor-General Sherry Boston.

Mane's admission of guilt stems from an incident dating back to Jan. 28, when he was taken into custody, charged with misdemeanor battery, released until April and then returned to jail to serve time for pushing 36-year-old Diana Graham out of his Hummer while driving down an Atlanta street. The tattooed rhymer reportedly offered the victim $150 to perform a sexual act but resorted to the act of violence once she refused his request.

Gucci Mane will serve six months in jail and receive probation upon his release, which was revealed by State Court Judge Eleanor Ross. In addition Mane, who was set to release a joint album with Waka Flocka Flame titled 'Ferrari Boyz,' must complete 12 weeks of anger management classes, pay $5,091 in restitution to Graham for her medical bills and pay a $3,000 fine.

Pinkett Smith's Hawthorne Axed

Jada Pinkett Smith will no longer be needing her hospital scrubs – her medical drama Hawthorne has been axed after three seasons.
The Matrix Reloaded actress returned to the small screen for the first time in 18 years for the show, which premiered on network TNT in 2009, but TV executives announced on Friday that they will not be renewing the contract for another series.
In a statement, a network representative says, “TNT has decided not to order a fourth season of HawthoRNe. TNT truly appreciates the tremendous dedication of everyone involved in HawthoRNe. The series gave TNT the opportunity to work with many outstanding people, including Jada Pinkett Smith and the rest of the show’s talented cast, crew, producers and writers. We wish everyone involved with HawthoRNe nothing but the best.”
The finale of the third series, which also starred Michael Vartan and singer/actor Marc Anthony, aired last month.
The cancellation news comes just weeks after tabloid reports falsely suggested Pinkett Smith had had an affair with Anthony, prompting his split from wife Jennifer Lopez.
The salsa singer has vehemently denied the claims, branding them “laughable”, while Pinkett Smith and her husband, I Am Legend superstar Will Smith, have also been forced to defend their 14-year marriage amid separation rumors.

T.I. Released from prison again...

TMZ reports:

T.I. has just returned to a halfway house to complete his prison sentence -- this after he was yanked out of the halfway house last week and returned to prison for allegedly engaging in shenanigans on his tour bus.

As TMZ first reported, prison officials sent U.S. Marshals to the halfway house last week, after concluding T.I. had unauthorized people on the bus that transported him there. Officials also claimed T.I. conducted business on the bus -- something his reps strongly deny.

T.I.'s lawyer, Steve Sadow, tells TMZ, "We have good reason to believe that this favorable result was reached because of the proactive and assertive approach taken to protect T.I.'s rights by providing B.O.P. officials and the media with reliable and accurate information and that T.I. did not intend to violate his transfer furlough or any other B.O.P. rules en route from the prison facility in Arkansas to the halfway house in Atlanta."

Sadow adds, "T.I. will be released from custody on Sept. 29, and then will be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for a period of 1 year."

LA's Red Bandant (The Game)

On the dawn of the arrival of rapper Game's forth studio album his buzz is as great as ever. The West coast native made his way in the game originally under rapper 50 cent and his G-Unit camp. This also symbolized Games first rap confrontation. Three albums later his equity in the game is as high as ever. Capturing attention with his rebellious attitude there is no wonder he is considered  "The angry rapper". In recent history Game has addressed issues with rap mogul Jay-Z. Game claimed he didn't like the advice Jay gave him in a night club some time back.
Never the less The game's 4th album is upon us. The Red Album, suggest gang symbolism as well as cultural depictions. The album offers a West coast sound with a universal appeal. Parental advisory is required for this one if couldn't tell.  The feature list is quite extensive including Dr. Dre, Snoop dogg, Lil Wayne, Drake,  Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, Big Boi, Lloyd, Mario, Beanie Sigel, Chris Brown, and new comer Kendrick Lamar.
