Music Monday with Meek Mill

A year ago if you would have asked someone who is Meek Mill they might have looked at you like you were insane. If you ask that same person the same question today they will give you the same look but for different reasons. After inking a major deal with Maybach Music group just 8 months ago Meek has been hard at work. Releasing two major singles ‘Tupac back’ and ‘Ima boss’ ft. CEO Rick Ross, the young Philadelphia rapper is quickly establishing his place in the Rap game. Now what’s upon us is Meek’s ultimate body of work to date; Dream Chasers hosted by Dj Drama. Nationally this compilation is sought but if you go to his native Philadelphia it’s more like a phenomenon. For the past few weeks since its release it’s all you hear. 8 of every 10 cars have this Mix tape on repeat. The city hasn’t witnesses a buzz like this since Beanie Sigel and the Roc a fella days. Here is one of my top tracks off the Mix tape. Hit the link: (Dream Chasers) to download and decide which tracks you like the most.

The Lyrical Globetrotter: Sellassie

Sellassie is the definition of a conscious emcee. Residing from the streets of San Francisco; there is no surprise his thoughts are so abstract.  As an Independent hip hop artist, activist, and entrepreneur Sellassie experienced success with his acclaimed debut release ‘Im tryin to make a livin not a killin’. The self-taught street poet speaks of in depth thoughts of the world around him through music.  You may see him virally, passionately reciting lyrical hymns or discussing modern day challenges for African Americans. Not only is Sellassie an advocate for his native land of California, he travels the United States and abroad extending the opportunity for others to be heard as well.
The 2 racks rap competition presented by Inhouse talent and hosted by Sellassie has become a main attraction as of late.  The team is creating a movement of upcoming independent hip-hop. 2racks is a fast paced, single elimination rap completion where emcees perform for industry and professional judges.  The winner takes home $2,000. The team has produced over 80 successful shows in two years, and in 15 different markets.  One thing that’s consistent with each show is the energy Sellassie and his establishment provides. Cultural awareness, art, and entertainment are on display at its highest level. The 2 racks rap completion may just be coming to a city your way. Check the link for more info. Here is a record by Sellassie called ‘Come Home’, check it out:

Stalley: Buckeye State of Mind

Rap and sports have an intimate bond. Some MC's Think they can ball while ballers choose torap. Whatever the case, no instance is truer then rapper Salley's. Stalley attended Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio. As a kid he played basketball freshman through senior year. After graduation, he left home to play Division 1 basketball but was injured. That setback brought him to New York to play for Long Island University but a second injury derailed his athletic plans. He changed his focus to music, and how ironic?.
In 2008, he connected with Ohio DJ, Terry Urban on the mixtape release “Goin Ape” as well as toured opening for Mos Def. His 2nd project MadStalley: The Autobiography brought attention to his transition from small town griot to rap star. He’s since worked with brands like Nike, ESPN, 10Deep and Mishka. Currently, Stalley has been working with Creative Control, the media collective associated with Dame Dash, DD172 and fellow rap artist Curren$y. His recent release titled Lincoln Way Nights (Intelligent Trunk Music), he carefully illustrates a typical night out on his popular hometown strip. He’s appeared on BET’s 106 and Park as a part of the Music Matters campaign and premiered his video for “SLAPP” on the countdown. Stalley has also recently signed with Maybach Music Group where he is beginning to surface nationally. Check out the videos below, new visuals from his standout mix tape Lincoln way nights:
